The story
The sky was blue when I packed the boat. This is an important detail because it explains several decisions that looked much less intelligent twenty minutes later. My rain jacket was on a peg in the shed. My lunch was wearing the only waterproof lid.
When the first shower arrived, I put the blue bucket on my head and immediately discovered that buckets have poor visibility. A bass chose that moment to leap beside the dinghy. I saw the splash, the tail and then mostly the inside of the bucket.
Back near the sheltered landing, I exchanged the bucket for my actual hat and wrote a new packing rule. The fish did not return to admire it. The sandwich survived, which is the result I prefer to emphasise when telling this episode.
A fictional mishap, not a suggestion for handling real weather.
